I enjoy knitting but it’s been several years since I’ve actually done any. For the past 4 years I have been entirely focused on glass and on building my business and that left nearly no time at all for other creative outlets. I’ve really been missing them. In the winter I love knitting and spinning wool, baking bread and cooking. Well this year I’ve been doing all of those things and it feels really good!
Currently I’m working on a pair of mittens, the cream colored yarn is some of my own handspun merino wool, it’s the softest most snuggly stuff you can imagine and I can’t wait until I can put these mittens on :O)
The pattern I am working is this one by Eunny Jang, they’re really gorgeous and for me, since it has been so long, they’re quite challenging, which is just what I need right now.
I’ve dragged my poor old Ashford spinning wheel out of the corner where it’s been collecting dust for the past few years and I waxed it and oiled all the moving parts and got it back in shape to do some spinning. I’ve got about 10lbs of fleece upstairs that needs cleaning and carding before I can use it. I’m not even sure what type of wool it is, it was given to my husband a few years ago by one of the men in the village who keeps sheep. So this weekend I’ll work on getting it clean and then get into some spinning. I’ve got lots of projects I’d like to work on this winter including a cardigan, a pullover and a big sqooshy blanket for the sofa. All using my own handspun and hand-dyed yarns. First though, I need to get my mittens made :O)
I wish you all a safe and peaceful holiday!
